FERNANDA CABALLERO
Mexico, 1990
Fernanda's work is more related to the emotion behind color and form, than to the imitation of the reality that we understand as "ours". She has used different disciplines such as dance, corporeality, meditation, qi gong and yoga to get to know the depths of the self and thus see them reflected in her work. Chance and the present moment are two of the most important elements of her work.
Graduated in 2014 with a degree in Architecture from CEDIM Monterrey, Mexico. Her main interest lies in the arts. With studies in drawing, sculpture and classical painting at La Sorbonne, upon graduation she had her first solo exhibition: Mar Adentro. In 2016 after moving her studio to Mexico City, she began her studies in textile arts, where she started a research in natural pigments. In 2017 she begins her studies in ceramics to bring them to her process. In 2018 she begins to produce her current work, focusing on different braiding techniques, the use of recycled textiles and color studies in large format. In October 2019 she had her second solo exhibition 'Temple', now in Mexico City, where she included a performative piece. In November of that same year she had her first international solo exhibition in Los Angeles, 'As deep as I can get into this thing'. 2020 was a year of profound growth: in February she was selected by Galería Enrique Guerrero as an invited artist to exhibit at Salón Acme 2020, with her project 'A strange loop'. During the pandemic hiatus she worked in her studio in Valle de Bravo, where she produced a body of work, shown at Galería Colector in a duo show with Aldo Chaparro. This same year she also completed an art residency at El Ganzo, where she worked mainly with her body in pieces that explored the idea of impermanence. In November 2021 her third solo show 'Beginner's Mind' opened at Galería Enrique Guerrero in CDMX. In December of the same year she was selected for the women's group exhibition at the Museo de Bellas Artes del Edo. de Mexico. In March 2022 she had a second duo exhibition with Chaparro, 'Adjust the Blinds' at 193 Gallery, Paris. In October of the same year she was part of the exhibition 'Constructive Construction' with Gwladys Alonzo and Tatiana Camacho at Suma Galería, Tulum MX. In the same month she presented her fourth solo show 'Am I allowed to talk about this now?' at Galería Enrique Guerrero, Todos Santos, BC.
